Overview
OML 142 (covering an area of 1,295 km2) is located between Benin City and Agbor towns of Edo state Nigeria. The area is relatively flat at an altitude of 100m on average (Figure 1). The Block is the retained portion with Mining Lease area from the original OPL 205 Block granted to Summit Oil International.

The geology of the area cuts across the Anambra Basin and the northernmost slice of the Niger Delta Basin. The block is located in the northern depositional belt of Niger Delta Basin. Some of the significant oil fields nearby are – Elegbe, Oben, Oben North and Ona (Figure 2). A review of nearby wells in year 2001 showed 42 discoveries were made out of 87 exploration wells drilled in the neighboring acreages.
